    Description

Monte Verde Estate is located in a privileged area in Carmo de Minas, state of Minas Gerais, where favorable conditions such as mild climate, abundant natural resources and high altitudes contribute to the production of some of the best specialty coffees in Brazil. Monte Verde grows coffees of the varieties Acaiá, Yellow Bourbon, Yellow Catucaí, Icatú and Mundo Novo. The farm produces approximately 5,000 bags of coffee per year, 50% of which are processed by the natural method; the remaining 50% are processed by the pulped natural system. Harvesting is done manually, concentrating on the ripe cherries. After harvesting, coffee is pre-dried on 86,000 sq.ft patios (around 8.000m²) and afterwards sent to mechanical driers for the beans to be slowly and uniformly dried. All coffees produced at Monte Verde Estate have a characteristic and predominant sweetness. Natural coffee presents a fruity flavor with intense acidity and aroma. This is a lot of 20 bags of the Yellow Bourbon variety which is extremely sweet and offers intense aromas that result in an exquisite cup.

This is a direct trade coffee offering from a farm that finished first in the Cup of Excellence for a natural processed coffee. It is a phenomenal coffee!

    Roaster Info

At Portola Coffee Lab, fine coffee stands at the intersection of art and science. Portola Coffee Lab grew from owner Jeff Duggan’s obsession with the chemistry of coffee, both the scientific chemistry and the chemistry of community, personality and relationship. Quality coffee does not just happen. It is the culmination of the combined craft of coffee grower, roaster and brewer, and Portola Coffee Lab makes it a mission to be intimately involved on all fronts.

It all starts with the bean. The buyers at Portola travel to the ends of the earth to find the very best lots of coffee grown throughout the world. They work deliberately with farmers who practice sustainable and environmentally responsible farming methods and reward them by paying top dollar – always above Fair Trade minimum – for the exquisite coffee beans they produce. Whenever possible, Portola Coffee Lab purchases coffee through Direct Trade, developing relationships that will continue for years.

Portola roasts coffee in small batches, cupping and sampling each roast to bring out the essence of the place where the bean was born. Each coffee is roasted to order, using meticulous measurements and calculations – the science part of the coffee equation, a part that Dugan feels is greatly overlooked by many coffee roasters.

Because Portola believes in traceability, every coffee is labeled with the details of its origins: the variety, the region, the farmer and the elevation.

The offerings from Portola Coffee Lab include meticulously sourced seasonal single origin coffees from the Americas, Indonesia and Africa, as well as espresso and drip blends created to highlight the complexity and nuances of the beans.
