Boulevard Coffee Roasting Company has been in operation for nearly 30 years in the Sacramento area. They roast daily, primarily for area businesses and for use in their cafe.

The cafe is located in an unassuming strip mall in Carmichael (in the greater Sacramento area). The interior is wood-filled and the atmosphere is relaxed. Think neighborhood coffee shop as opposed to a commuter's stop and go, or a top tier espresso bar.

The coffee ranges from really good to somewhat disapointing, depending on what you order and who prepares your drink. I'd recommend French press to anyone visiting for the first time, and try to go with the lightest roast available (more on this later). If you catch the right barista, go ahead and order espresso, but, I still haven't had a truly great shot here.

I think that a lot of the beans could benefit from a lighter roast but I am biased toward light roasts. Many of the blends and single orgins billed as light roast are really what a lot of roasters would consider more of a medium or dark roast. I will say that their Tanzanian peaberry is one of my all-time favorite beans for drip because of its nice brightness and buttery finish.

The best thing about Boulevard is the pricing. Boulevard is still selling many 1 pound bags for what most roasters are charging for 12 ounce bags. Prices for coffee in the cafe are on the lower side as well. Boulevard is somewhere around Peet's in terms of quality and experience; sometimes better, but usually comparable. You could do much worse for coffee in the Sacramento area, and Boulevard is worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.

<br>In generous 1lb gags - won't be long till these go the way of the ten cent cup of coffee - 12 oz is the new pound according to my roaster - I gave him seventy five cents and told him it was the new dollar...

Yeah I find there are a few coffee shop like this around, I should go visit my local shop in my small home town and give it a proper review as I feel like it will be about the same as here.

I have been going to Boulevard Coffee Roasting Co. for about 8 years. I am a huge lover of coffee, I have worked in many aspect of coffee and have a deep passion for it. I value the whole experience, from the staff's greeting to the aroma and the taste of my coffee. I try every Sacramento area coffee shop I can find, and I have to tell you if you want a GREAT cup of coffee, with a beautiful ambiance, come here!!! I don't know if I have as developed of a pallet as some of the rest of you, but I truly treasure my espresso, that I drink black, from this location. Yes, some days there are different beans in the machine and different barista's controlling the operations, so there will be slight variances. We all know what a true art brewing espresso is, and the existence of a perfect shot is more of an intention then an actual possibility in my opinion. Nothing beats it though on the days you get to try a coffee you have never heard of before, given to the owner as a special gift that he is cupping and sharing with mostly his guests. This shop represents to me the devotion you can have to your passion for coffee. In times where Wifi and coffee are like peas and carrots, this shop chooses to support a different atmosphere and keep it about the coffee. Expect the family feel, the remembrance of customer names and drinks, the traditional macchiato instead of the sugary milky corporate version, the chatter and laughter going across the room. Oh, and maybe you will see me :-)
