So, I’ve expressed in the past that I tend to prefer powders to syrups, but due to a combination of factors I’ve decided that perhaps I’ve given syrups the short shaft and that they deserve a second look.

These factors include:

  • Pricing. Syrups on the whole tend to be cheaper than ordering from online shops. My current favorite (Ghirardelli white chocolate powder)  has run the gamut in pricing from $11 all the way up to $24, depending on if Amazon happens to have it in stock at the time. $24 is a bit too much to be paying for the sweetener I think.
  • I haven’t really tried syrups outside of coffee shops. I think judging them on that is a bit too hasty since I tend to prefer my coffee I prepare at home (even without syrup/powder added).
  • Roaste.com doesn’t carry powders (that I can find at least), but does stock a variety of syrups. In the interest of reducing the amount of time I spend looking for coffee supplies it’s nice to be able to take advantage of just shopping at one site. Plus, this lets me take advantage of all the specials Roaste.com offers and also lets me take advantage of my Roaste.com PRIME subscription.

So, I’ve decided to try a few varieties of syrup (and review them of course!), but since I have zero opinions to go on, I’ve decided to start by asking you guys what your favorite syrups/flavors are. Also, what brands are the best? I constantly see Torani bottles everywhere here, but I’ve also heard good things about Monin. The Da Vinci I haven’t seen much of, but maybe it’s great too? I’ll be placing my restock order in a couple of days so feel free to chime in.

I have only used Torini, I really like the carmel and hazenut myself. I am not a big fan of more exotic flavors and tend to like them in cold beverages. I am interested to try their chai flavoring for making chai lattes with as oppose to concentrate.

Why not make your own and infuse it with whatever flavors you prefer? Too much trouble? If so, I like Torani, too. Vanilla and hazelnut are good, caramel is ok, passionfruit is not for me, and bacon (!) is pretty much gross unless you add chocolate. ;) That's all I know.

I have had pretty good success with the Torani ones I have bought. Currently have 3 different Sugar Free versions and they are all pretty tasty.

I don't really drink syrup here. My favourite flavor would be raspberry, but even then, I don't really add them to my coffee. Somehow the flavoring is too strong to mask the delicates in the coffee.

I have used the Torani, Kahlua and Starbucks syrups. Some are better than others. To me the chocolate, raspberry and almond are the best flavors. I did not like the watermelon, hazelnut or the Kahlua brand flavors. The watermelon was too weak, the hazelnut and Kahlua had really bad aftertastes to them.

I don't usually use syrups, but on a really hot day an iced latte with just a dash of Vanilla syrup can be amazingly refreshing. I can't remember what brand I have used, but it was one of the two main ones you listed. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Hmm, that's two of you now now that mentioned raspberry, interesting. After hearing so much good feedback(in general) I'll probably place an order for some.

Never heard of that particular brand, but I would like to get a white chocolate syrup. White Chocolate Mochas are one of my favorite drinks.

I like raspberry as well, although I can't really imagine putting it in coffee. I also kinda wondered how strong the syrups were.

The only syrup I've tried is the Fontana white chocolate syrup which I bought based on reviews from amazon. I like it but its not offered on Roaste:(

Well that's three recommendations now for Torani, so I guess they must be doing something right.

Haha, I'll pass on the bacon coffee and leave that to you. As far as the making it myself, it would probably be a cool idea in the future, but yeah I don't really want to go through the trouble atm.

Chai actually sounds like a pretty interesting idea, I enjoy tea a lot. I'm not 100% sure how it would taste in coffee though.
