    West Bean Coffeee-Sumatra

My husband and I were very pleased with the West Bean Sumatra. We are coffee lovers and have been fortunate to have drank coffee most everywhere in the world. The Sumatra arrived within 2 day of our order, and we could smell its wonderful aroma from within the package. We french-pressed the beans, and the results were delicious. The Sumatra had a deep, earthy, and fresh flavor that was noticeably different from the Starbuck's Blends and Hawaiian Kona blends that we usually drink. The West Bean is now one of our favorites and would definitely recommend the Sumatra. Loved the prompt shipment.

    Roaster Info

The co-founders of San Diego’s The WestBean understand that all coffee beans are not created equal. That’s why they select only the best green coffee from around the world for their roaster and treat them with delicate, loving care.

Paul Reizen, James Rauh, and Andrew Karr share a passion for coffee and a desire to find the hidden characteristics that make each coffee variety and harvest unique. The team started out hand-roasting coffee in the backyard, but soon found an appreciative audience of friends and neighbors for their micro-roasted coffee batches. They put their heads together, pooled their resources and splurged on a Renegade Roaster, a locally made commercial quality coffee roaster that may be the most sophisticated machine in the world. It allows them an unprecedented level of control over the timing, air flow and temperature of the roast, which translates into the ability to finely craft coffee with no limits. They approach roasting coffee as a labor of love, ensuring that every single bean in the batch is roasted to its fullest potential.

Producing quality coffee is a journey that takes the bean from seed to cup, and every step of the process influences the quality of the coffee in the cup. Reizen, Rauh, and Karr take their part in the process seriously, carefully seeking out the finest coffee beans and taking the responsibility to roast each one faultlessly so that it exhibits its essential characteristics – the fruit, the sweetness, the complex interplay of tart, sweet, bright and deep that blossoms when the coffee is perfectly roasted and prepared with care.

The WestBean offers a changing lineup of single origin coffees and seasonally adjusted blends for espresso and American coffee. They regularly source amazing micro lots from farms in the Americas, Africa and the Pacific and seek out the most distinguished, standout coffees they can find anywhere.
