Price: $52.85

Equipment Info

The siphon brewer was once a fairly common coffee-making method, but it fell out of favor when drip brewers and percolators came onto the scene. As more and more people have come to value the nuances of flavor in coffee, siphon brewing has made a comeback, along with tabletop service at some of the fanciest cafés and restaurants. The Yama 8-cup stovetop coffee siphon uses a combination of full-immersion brewing, consistent brew temperature and cloth filter during the draw-down cycle to create full-flavored coffee with a clean flavor profile common to filtered coffee.

SIPHON COFFEE ON YOUR STOVETOP

The Yama stovetop brewer doesn’t require a fancy stand setup and burner as a heating source. The heat-proof borosilicate glass siphon does its magic on your stovetop so you never have to hunt down fuel in order to use it.

CONTROL IS IN YOUR HANDS

With a siphon brewer, you control the variables to customize the resulting coffee to your liking. Once you’ve mastered the basics of the vacuum brewing method, you can customize the amount of coffee, the grind and the extraction time required to make coffee just the way you like it.

DRAMA IN A COFFEE POT

Forget about the tempest in a teapot. The Yama coffee siphon provides drama in a coffee pot. As the water in the bottom chamber heats, it will slowly rise into the upper chamber to immerse the ground coffee. From this point on, timing is everything. Knock down the bloom once or twice and let the coffee extract for two to three minutes, depending on the strength you want. Remove the pot from the heat and let it stand. When the bottom chamber cools, the coffee in the top chamber will suddenly be drawn through the filter back into the bottom chamber with a sudden whoosh. Remove the top chamber and enjoy one of the best cups of coffee you’ll ever make.

FEATURES

  • 40-ounce borosilicate glass coffee pot and brewing chamber
  • Clear cup markings on the bottom pot
  • Makes 4-6 servings (40 ounces) of coffee
  • Works on your stovetop.
  • Includes wire trivet for electric cooktops
  • Includes 2 washable, re-usable cloth filters

PROS:

  • Excellent coffee that combines the flavor of full immersion with the clean cup of filter brewing
  • Because it works on your stovetop, the water reaches boiling temperature much faster than it does over a butane or spirit lamp.
  • Even on the stovetop, it’s impressive to watch.

CONS:

  • Bit of a learning curve to get the brewing method right, but once you do, you’ll love the coffee.

I have several coffee making options available to me. Espresso, Drip, Press. This little gem makes a wonderful pot of coffee. There is no coffee sludge dust at the bottoms of my coffee cups any more and its fun to watch it in action. If you are looking for a great cup of coffee this little coffee siphon really does the trick

I love this coffee siphon. It makes a great cup of coffee. My in laws are in town and they ask me to use it to make the coffee every morning. I will order them one soon as well. I would like for the pot to be bigger like a 12 cup but that is a small issue. I also think it is a great price. I would highly recommend it.

Makes an excellent pot of coffee. Easy to use. Only downside is the clean up takes a little longer than a regular coffee maker. The filter takes a little extra care to clean. Well worth the effort for the flavor and taste you get.

I've always had a problem making a drinkable cup of coffee at home. With the Yama coffee siphon I find it just about impossible to make a bad cup. In fact, I like it so much that I ordered a second Yama to have as a spare. Simply a great product.

I just received this a week ago. I am so glad I bought the Siphon. The coffee I make is fantastic with no bitter after taste. Just good coffee. Yes, it takes a little more time to make and to clean up but in my humble opinion it is worth it. I am spreading the word about this coffee maker.

I've read about how 1. Cool coffee siphon vac pot brewing process was 2. What a great cup of java it would produce! I was not let down on either point. Such a cool device that's easy to use. I used an electric kettle to heat my water which also makes it quite a fast process once you get going. The result was a very smooth brew that I plan on perfecting with each new batch of beans ... varying my grind and timing. I'm sure to impress my dinner guests next time I offer coffee! Shipped quickly West to East Coast via priority mail with no damage. Thanks!

I give this coffee maker a 5 star because it makes the best coffee I have ever had. I have always had an automatic and with this pot it changes the whole flavor to a richer, nuttier taste and it takes about the same amount of time to brew.

I have been using a French Press for the past eight years. The press has always made a very good cup of coffee. I came across a picture of an old Sunbeam vacuum pot and remembered that it made excellent coffee. I got rid of it only because the pot was mechanically breaking down. After doing some research I decided to get the Yama 8 cup vacuum pot. I didn't see much difference in design from the other vacuum pots available and the price was good. I did buy a stainless mesh filter for it because I don't like having a filter that is going to absorb or block the coffee oils. My first pot brewed with the Yama brought me back to the absolutely superb coffee that this type of pot can brew. It has all the richness and flavor that I got from a press, but free of the sediments that a press often has. I find that I use less coffee per cup with the Yama than I did with the French Press. Brewing good coffee just got less costly. An added benefit is that the coffee is not sitting in the grounds, and has a fresher taste than the press coffee when reheated (microwave). I used to make excellent coffee, now I make superb coffee. By the way, I use it on a six inch, 1500 W. infrared ceramic cook-top and I have no problem with it. Boils the water in about four minutes. I turn off the heat as it starts to boil and install the top half. Residual heat from the burner keeps the water boiling. I move the pot to an unheated burner after a three minute steep time.

This is a well built, durable Vac Pot. I've been using this unit for 5 months now without any issues. Very simple to use and clean up while more involved than your standard drip makers, is simple, Just make sure your hands are dry or you risk slippage which can lead to breakage :) Makes some of the best smooth tasting coffee and brews it strong which allows you to use less coffee and save you money in long run. Compared to bodum stovetop this one wins hands down.

I bought this apparatus in order to brew stove-top coffee, which I've found to be more to my taste than the conventional drip method, and also far more enjoyable to use: no cords, no phantom leaks, no surprises. You can see the whole brewing process as it occurs, and the device is easy to take apart and clean. It is fragile, and the way it assembles gives potential for breaking pieces, e.g., the thin vertical tube seems vulnerable when putting the top and bottom together or securing the stretched chain to the tube's bottom from the cloth filter on top. You can also watch the water boil and the liquid move between the two globes - and you'll want to, since you'll also need to stir the grounds and cool your brew before that glass gets too hot.

Owned this vac pot for several years. The glass is hardy, the gasket makes the trip down south run flawlessly, and is easy to clean due to the wider mouth on the bottom carafe. I replaced the cloth filter with a Silex "Lox-In" glass filter. $10 on ebay for the filter. Saves the cleaning and storing of the cloth filter, though I must say the cloth filter makes ultra clean coffee, no grounds whatsoever. Excellent pot. Excellent price. Highly recommended.

Coffee is never quite so beautiful as it is when it is brewed and presented in exquisitely crafted glass brewers. Since 1978, Yama Glass of Taiwan has been crafting beautiful high-heat-resistant hand-blown coffee brewers, tableware, tea pots and tea brewers that make your coffee look spectacular.

Yama Glass is one of the few remaining hand-blown glass factories in the world. The company’s product line includes tabletop siphon and vacuum coffee brewers, hand-blown drip coffee brewers and tabletop or floor model Japanese iced coffee brewers.

Coffee brewers and drippers from Yama Glass are more than just good coffee brewers, though. They have an inimitable style that transcends time to bring drama and romance to your table or countertop. The coffee siphon pots are an eclectic blend of modern and traditional components that have a wonderfully steampunk feel to them, and the drip coffee brewers are elegant in their simplicity and attention to small detail.

In addition to their range of glass coffee brewers, Yama Glass also offers beautiful hand-blown teapots, coffee and tea presses and glass warmers for coffee siphons.
