I had mentioned in my last post about the coffee shop SubRosa, and that for their pour over method of choice was the Clever Coffee Dripper with a gold mesh filter. I highlighted it because I believe like a lot of others out there that the Clever Coffee Dripper is a easy hard to mess up way to make coffee that turns out really well. So if I should feel that way and another quality focused coffee shop would put their hat in the ring with the Clever Coffee Dripper.
In an case one of the people that responded to the blog was asking about how a Clever Coffee Dripper tastes and a little more information about it.
The reason why the Clever Coffee dripper is such a fool-proof way to make coffee is because there is no pour variable in there with the coffee. I will go into further detail in just a second, but basically you put a number 4 filter in the Clever Dripper, put in your coffee, and pour in your hot water. It's really just that simple so you can see how it would be easy for anyone to recommend to use.
However, anything can be easy to do but does it produce good results? And of course it does. The taste in the cup is like a french press minus the sediment that you normally get since you are using a paper filter, if using something like a gold filter you will get sediment on par with using the filter in an auto brewer.The coffee has a nice rich body and flavor, however you will find that it will be a little muddy in flavor.
Now as far as a little nitty gritty on the brewer.
The brewer can make up to 16 ounces in on batch, but it really gets very close to the top of the brewer. Therefore, I like to keep the capacity at around 12 ounces, which is enough for a big hearty cup of coffee. The other thing that you have to keep in mind is that in order to empty the Clever Dripper you need to place it on a mug to push the stopper up and release the brew down into your awaiting mug. I have been surprise at just how large a mug you can use. For the picture I took tonight I just used a glass for a better view.
Overall, it's a great little device that I find myself using a lot in the mornings when running late. All you need to do is measure out the coffee to your desired strength, I like 2 grmas to an ounce of water, grind to coarse drip, pour in your water and let it steep for 4 minutes. Very easy very little thought.
