Latte for Saturday!

March 16, 2012

I have been busy for a long while but now it is getting much better since midterm exams are over! I even have sometime to roast my own coffee to enjoy it this weekend. This Morning, I woke up early and treated myself to a nice latte made on the Nuova Simonelli Musica and thought that I would share my experience here with other coffee enthusiast.

This latte was made with Rwanda Abakudekawa beans roasted to an FC+into the second crack for about  20 seconds. It was simply delicious to put it simply since my sense of taste and smell is not so good in the morning. This bring me to another thought about my coffee enjoyment. About 3 weeks ago I said goodbye to my favorite espresso machine, the La Pavoni manual lever which I used the most among the machines that I own. Since then, I have been using the Nuova Simonelli Musica and get to know it much more. I have also noticed one really important change and that is the type of coffee that I'm currently enjoying.

This change only really confirm my previous suspicion as well as what other have said regarding pump espresso and lever espresso. I find that lightly roasted beans do not do well being extracted in the Nuova Simonelli Musica. Previous lightly roasted coffees that I found myself enjoying on the Pavoni or the Ponte Vecchio Lusso do not taste very pleasant in the Musica. These coffee would taste too fruity for my preference and I did not get the same satisfaction as I would from the levers. This leave me with no choice but to purchase coffee blends that are roasted darker or if I roast the coffee myself then I would need to roast in to a darker level. And since doing that, the Nuova Simonelli Musica has been rewarding me with very good espresso and especially creamy capuccinos and lattes!
